Can oil paintings be put behind glass?

I just painted an oil painting and I want to frame it and possibly put it behind glass with the frame. Is it ok to put it behind glass, or will it have some weird effect on it...?Can oil paintings be put behind glass?
Put shims between the glass and the painting edge it will hold the glass off the canvas regardless of degree of impasto. Can oil paintings be put behind glass?
As long as the oil painting dries full first, and your glass doesn't press contact the painting, it should be fine. Depending on how thick the oil is on the canvas if you have the glass pressing upon the painting, it may smudge/push the paint on the canvas and distort the image.
Make sure the painting does not touch the glass at all. I was told in art school it can take 50+ years for a painting in oils to cure fully
you should be fine ......
