Anyone have suggestions as to how to sell oil paintings or have galleries notoce you? Know of juried artshows?

Any local galleries I've contacted have not respomded to my email inquiries - don't want to send them images by email or cd if their not interested. Juried art shows the way to go? How do I find out about them? Any suggestions, clues, websites appreciated!Anyone have suggestions as to how to sell oil paintings or have galleries notoce you? Know of juried artshows?
Hi,

Lets start by being realistic.

A gallery is a business, therefore its objective is to make money; the are exceptions of course but lets leave them aside.

Usually a gallery owner will represent that he/she thinks will sell and usually what sells is a painter with a good name on the market.

No, to have one works in a gallery either one should already have some curriculum, namely some participations on artshows and couple of exhibits.

Of course that having a particular and defined style and a good quality work is really important.

One needs to be aware of the quality of one's work.

And finally but not the least, having the right connexions.

On this page of my website you'll find some good resources :

Check Artshow and Artbusiness (scroll down to see the articles).

Good luck.

Kind regards,

1) you can try selling on ebay; 2) try visiting (in person) local art galleries/picture framing stores with your portfolio. some stores will sell for you and receuive part of the selling cost as commission; 3) if you know other artists, find out about upcoming shows and buy a table/booth together; 4) http://www.canadianart.ca/
Here are some places to find opportunities to enter exhibitions %26amp; competitions:

Getting into galleries can be tough, but it is best to approach them with a portfolio of your work (email link to a web portfolio or otherwise). If you are having difficulties, try to develop a larger following (collector base) yourself and build your resume.

Also, Wetcanvas.com is a large forum of artists....many of them can offer additional help to specific questions...

Good luck! :)

Best,

first thing to do is to make sure you dont suck so ask strangers what they think of your work. then remember no one is interested in your words unless your a writer so you need to send them a picture of your work. You might want to start selling them at the swap meat or on eBay. if your really good or have a new look someone will notice you a you'll be famous
JURY SHOWS ARE GREAT BUT YOU MAY NEED TO START AT TOWN ARTS AND CRAFT SHOWS. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE OTHER ARTISTS' WORK AND WHAT THEY CHARGE. I DO NOT THINK EMAIL IS THE BEST WAY GO. CALL AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE YOUR WORK FOR CONSIDERATION. YOU COULD TRY EBAY BUT IT HAS BECOME A BIT TACKY TO ME
I used to sell art door to door - that worked ok.

It's a tough gig - you gotta be tougher.
